Obituary for Arlene D. Schilling

Arlene Schilling, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, May 6, at Unity Point Health- Allen Hospital after a very brief illness. She was born July 29, 1924, in Waterloo, daughter of Nicholas and Dora Hess Schilling.

She worked in the Productions Dept. for almost 40 years at John Deere in Waterloo where she had many friends. She was a longtime member of St. Edwards Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Survived by: two nieces, Norma Buser of Cedar Rapids, and Shirley Hanson of Bellingham, Washington; a nephew, Glen Schilling of Colorado Springs, Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews; as well as her longtime “second family” including Dennis Hoffman and Lois Bute and her daughter Paula Bute.

Preceded in death by: her parents; six brothers: Sylvester, Alvin, Gilbert, Clarence, Floyd, and LaVerne, and one sister, Florence; numerous nephews and nieces; and her best friends, Helen Hoffman of Waterloo, and Bob Boice of Cedar Falls.

Services will be Thursday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be an hour before services at the church.

Memorials: may be made directed to St. Edward Catholic Church or The Western Home Communities.
