Obituary in memory of Clara Caroline Lighthart Dutcher

June 14, 1918- October 14, 2017

Clara Dutcher, 99, passed away October 14, 2017 in Madison Indiana. Services will be held in Waterloo, Iowa. Clara was born in Waterloo to parents Louis and Minnie Lighthart. Clara was married to George Dutcher, June 21, 1939 in Lancaster, MO. She was a dedicated wife for 60 years. Clara was a member of the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, where she served in the choir, was an elder and deacon. In addition to raising two daughters and a son, Clara worked at Hoover Junior High as a secretary and retired in 1981. She enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears and Cubs, and an always faithful UNI football and basketball fan. Her favorite hobbies included playing cards, reading, knitting, crocheting and cross stitching.

Clara was a breast cancer and uterine cancer survivor and lived a beautiful and loving life; often described as the sweetest woman on earth!

Clara is preceded in death by her husband George Dutcher; three brothers-Richard, Wallace and Wayne Lighthart; two sisters Helen Bagg and Mary Kerr; and daughter Judith Penrose.

She is survived by her two children Charles (Terry) Dutcher and Karla (David) Sonksen. Her grandchildren Eden (Wilson) Martin, Erin (Brian) Nash, Erica (Andrew) Male, Jennifer (Mike) Harrison, Michael (Austyn) Sonksen, and Katie (Lyle) Smith. Her great-grandchildren Lillian, Charlie and Isham Martin; Avery and Nolan Nash; Anderson and Rory Male.

A graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, with burial there. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested a donation in Clara's name to: Cedar Valley Hospice.
