Obituary for Elaine June Berry

Elaine June Berry, 91, of Waterloo, died Saturday, May 6, at the Denver Sunset Home, Denver, under the care of UnityPoint Hospice.

She was born January 3, 1926, in Waterloo, the daughter of William and Barbara Weis Ahlhelm. She married Marion C. Berry on April 7, 1947, and they later divorced.

Elaine graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1944. She was employed with the Waterloo Courier and as a finance clerk for Schoitz Memorial Hospital, later becoming Covenant Medical Center, for twenty years, retiring in 1987.

Survivors include: two daughters, Ann Berry of Marshalltown and Barbara (George) Xakellis of Tomah, Wisc.; two sons, Joel (Georgina “Gina”) of Cedar Falls and Patrick (Glenda) of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Patrick Berry, Derrick Berry and Ameilia Balm; two brothers, Robert (Melba “Tommie”) Ahlhelm of Des Moines and Jim (Janice) Ahlhelm of Evansdale.

Preceded in death by: her parents, her son, Steven Berry; her granddaughter, Erin Berry; two brothers, Ralph Ahlhelm and Donald Ahlhelm; two sisters, Madeline Schellhorn and Irene Peterson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street with inurnment at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
