Obituary for Geneva C. Russell

Geneva C. Russell, 82, of Elk Run Heights, died Friday, Oct. 27 at Covenant Medical Center, ER.

She was born Feb. 16, 1935 in Gilbertville, daughter of Lawrence and Frances Schares Nie. She married James H. Russell Oct. 10, 1955 in Gilbertville. He died Sept. 18, 2010.

Geneva ran a day care out of her home for many years, and later cleaned for The Other Place III in Evansdale. Geneva enjoyed sitting in her chair by the window, faithfully keeping a “neighborhood watch” of the city of Elk Run Heights.

Survived by: a son, Michael (Jeanie) Russell of Manchester; two daughters, Teresa Nie and Cindy Anderson both of Elk Run Heights; a son-in-law, Michael Anderson of Waterloo; 4 grandchildren, Matt, Ashley, and Cole & Morgan; 4 step grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; three sisters, Pat (John) Hamling of Vinton, Lori (John) Blitsch of Waterloo and Janice (Arlin) Wente of Waverly; a brother-in-law, Harold Bass of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: a son-in-law Mike Nie; a brother, Eugene Nie; and a sister, Rose Bass.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary.
Visitation will continue at the church for an hour before services on Thursday.
