Obituary for Joseph E. Slaughter

Joseph E. Slaughter, 67, of Evansdale, died Wednesday, October 11, at UnityPoint Allen Hospital.

He was born August 1, 1950, in Waterloo, the son of Delbert and Gladys Voyek Slaughter. He married Beverly Metcalf on December 26, 1970, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville.

Joe served in the United States Army from 1970-1973, during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated Joe’s Country Grill in Evansdale and Cedar Falls and also Slaughter’s Steak House in Evansdale.

Survivors include: his wife, Beverly of Evansdale; his son, Bryan (Randi Walker) Slaughter of Evansdale; his daughter, Laurie (Marc) Borwig of Evansdale; his mother, Gladys Slaughter of Evansdale; three grandchildren, Tessa, Caleb, and Leah Borwig; his brother, Steve (Donna) Slaughter of Atlanta, Ga.; his sisters, Linda Stedman of Waterloo and Debbie (Mark) Burrill of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by: his father, Delbert Slaughter; his brother-in-law, Bob Stedman.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street with inurnment at a later date. Full military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31, assisted by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation from 4-7 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday both at the funeral home.
