Obituary for Leona Josephine Dietsch Witt

Leona Josephine Dietsch Witt, 104, of Waterloo, died Sunday, March 25, at NorthCrest Specialty Care Center of natural causes.

She was born July 31, 1913 in Waterloo, daughter of Seraphin and Anna Seiffert Dietsch. She married Roland Maxwell Witt on September 1, 1934, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waterloo and he preceded her in death on January 3, 1982.
Leona was a homemaker. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Mary’s Catholic Church Green Peppers Basketball Team, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Known as the “Crafty Lady” because of her many talents, which included ceramics and painting. She was especially well known for the hundreds of Old World Santas which she painted for family, relatives and friends. In later months her creativity was expressed in the many adult coloring books which she completed. She also enjoyed a good game of cards!! Let’s not forget the fishing!! Those crappies at Rock Creek were in fear of succumbing to her fast filet knife!! During her 104 years of life, she continued to be an inspiration of love and support to all who knew her.

Survivors include: five children, Jim (Patti) Witt of Apple Valley, Minn, Dick (Sylvia) Witt of Cedar Falls, Marge Bovey of Anchorage, Alaska, Bonnie (Dan) Connors of Grand Junction, Colo, and Connie (Steve) Kelley of Parker, Colo; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: six brothers and five sisters.

Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Public visitation from 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 2 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m.Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or NorthCrest Specialty Care Craft Room.
