Obituary for Lewis Lavern Essmann

Lewis Lavern Essmann, 84 of Waterloo, died Thursday, April 27 at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center.

He was born September 16, 1932 in Waterloo, son of Louis and Emma Schellhorn Essmann.

He was employed with Goodwill Industries for 40 years. Throughout his life, Lewis was involved with Exceptional Persons and considered them part of his family.

He is survived by 16 nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Betty Essmann of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Amanda Essmann, Merinna Bruns, Ann Foutch, Erna Galbraith and Roseanna Van Syoc and three brothers, Kenneth, Ervin and Charles Essmann.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation will be for an hour before services on Thursday.

Lewis liked to fish with family members. He loved to ride his bicycle back and forth to work. He enjoyed working in the garden with his mother and attending church at First Lutheran Church in Waterloo.
