Obituary for Roland F. Nie

Roland F. Nie, 79, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, January 10, at NorthCrest Specialty Care.

He was born February 6, 1938, in Gilbertville, the son of Roger and Elvira Olinger Nie. He married Judith Buehner on February 7, 1959, in Waterloo and she died December 17, 1998.
Roland was employed as a crane operator for John Deer retiring in 1998.

Survivors include: three sons, Kevin (Amy) Nie of Independence, Gary Nie of Muscatine, and David (Darla) Nie of Traer; three daughters, Cheryl (Greg Anderson) Nie, Teresa Nie, and Lynn (Tom) Dvorak all of Waterloo; sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bernie (Diane) Nie of Maquoketa, Allan (Teri) Nie of Jesup and Kenny (Janet) Nie of La Porte City; a sister, Betty (Ray Kane) Taylor of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters, Marlene Taylor and Joanne Strayer; three brothers, Eugene, Raymond and Raphael all in infancy,

Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4-8 p.m. Friday and also one hour prior to service Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

Roland was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed racing whether watching or participating. He especially loved spending time with his family.
