Obituary for Willie B. Montgomery

Willie B. Montgomery, 82 of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Feb. 21 at UnityPoint Health - Allen Hospital ER.

He was born Feb. 1 1936 in Durant, Miss., son of James and Narvel Ann Weems Montgomery. He married Norma J. Flowers March 16, 1961 in Waterloo.

Mr. Montgomery worked for Rath Packing until it’s closure, and then worked for Carnation Company, Waverly. Willie graduated from Waterloo East and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survived by his wife, Norma; his daughter, Christy Montgomery of Milwaukee, Wis.; five sons, Norm (Pauline) of Waterloo, Will (Loleta) of Cedar Falls, Cornelius of Waterloo, Carl (Michon) of Grand Prairie, Texas and Lew (Stacey) of Cedar Rapids; 16 grandchilldren; 16 great grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Montgomery of Waterloo; four sisters, Mary L. Frizell, Lorraine (Otis) Gaston, Bonnie (Ira) Frizell, and Eva Culp, all of Waterloo; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: five brothers Robert, James, Curtis, Ennis and Alfred Montgomery; one sister, Narvel Partee.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1 at Antioch Baptist Church, 426 Sumner Street, with burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo and Evansdale Amvets Post 19 and 31 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a Time of Sharing at 6:30 p.m.

Willie loved all sports, but especially was active with golf and a member of the Swinger’s Golf Club. He was a big supporter of his alma mater, Waterloo East High.
